Successful candidate must speak fluent English. Slashdot Media (SDM) is a rapidly growing, very profitable 20-year-old integrated marketing company. Our family of iconic websites such as sourceforge.net and slashdot.org generate over 40 million unique visitors and over ½ billion-page views per month. We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team. Our core infrastructure is self-hosted and heavily relies on open source tools / technologies such as Proxmox, Linux, Ceph, Docker and more. As a DevOps engineer on our team, you should be able to understand the complexities surrounding such systems and effectively maintain and troubleshoot workloads that span them.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain RHEL-based and Ubuntu servers and services hosted therein (Nginx, Apache, php-fpm, haproxy, mysql, postgres, etc)
  • Apply regular security updates and patches to operating systems and containers
  • Monitor systems and applications and address alerts
  • Coordinate data center activities such as network cabling, drive replacements, and server installations via remote hands
  • Support development teams and senior DevOps engineers
  • Continuously automate and optimize operational workflows
  • Participate in on-call rotation

Must Have:

  • 3+ years experience in DevOps or Systems Administration roles
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, managers, developers, and support teams
  • Proficiency with Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and the command line
  • Experience managing and configuring Nginx
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting email systems
  • Experience with DNS configuration and management
  • Experience with replicated databases (MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or similar)
  • Scripting ability (Bash or Python)
  • Experience with server virtualization and containerization technologies

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Juniper networking equipment
  • Familiarity with Python and/or PHP
  • Experience with Ansible or other configuration management tools
  • Experience with any of Proxmox, Ceph, Opensearch/Elasticsearch

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $3,000,000 - $3,500,000 per month
