The Position

The Student Success Advocate is responsible for providing support, motivation, and guidance to students at California Intercontinental University to help them succeed academically. This includes assisting with student academic progress, connecting students with resources and support services, and providing counseling and mentorship. The Student Success Advocate will also be responsible for collaborating with other departments to ensure the success of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist students progress with their courses and up and through graduation
  • Monitor and encourage regular student attendance
  • Monitor and manage individual and department retention
  • Onboard new students to ensure they are successful in their courses and program
  • Provide counseling and mentorship to students to support their academic development
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Admissions, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs, to ensure the success of students.
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and best practices in student success.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to student success.
  • Advise and support students in their transition to the university and throughout their academic careers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as counseling, education, social work, or a related discipline, providing foundational knowledge relevant to student support services. A master's degree may be preferred for advanced expertise.
  • 2-3 years of experience working with college students, particularly those who may face academic or personal challenges, indicating familiarity with student support strategies and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with students, faculty, and staff, essential for providing guidance and support to students facing academic or personal challenges.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to higher education, including admissions, financial aid, and student records, ensuring compliance and understanding of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills essential for student advocacy and support.
